Sales and Product Knowledge Training Program
Mat Components
Knowledge is Power!
You Must be the Expert!
- Know your products.
- What are the benefits of renting vs. buying?
- Offer customers what they need vs. what is convenient for your company.
- Customization of proposals is a crucial key to success.
Your personal credibility in the selling process often hinges on your demonstrated
knowledge of not only your product offering, but also knowledge of the competitive
offering.
To summarize this section, you can be assured that your company has selected Mountville
Mills, Inc. as their mat source due to the consistency of our products and our long-term
performance as the leading supplier of washable mats.
THE NYLON YARN

All of the yarn used in the Mountville product is a high twist, static dissipative
nylon yarn. This high twist, heat set yarn acts like tiny brushes to scrub the soles
of shoes, removing soil that is normally tracked into a building. This soil is trapped
deep in the carpet, keeping the mat attractive. The construction of the yarn virtually
eliminates the “crushing” of the carpet normally associated with direct sale mats.
(Exhibit 1)
Keep in mind that static electricity can create safety hazards, and can damaged
sensitive electronic equipment. All of the carpeted mats from Mountville are static-dissipative
as the carbon filaments that are contained in the yarn absorb this static electricity.
In fact, Mountville carpeted mats exceed the static propensity requirements set
forth by IBM. You can also be confident that no amount of laundering can diminish
the effectiveness of the carbon filaments. (Exhibit 2)
METHODS USED TO DYE THE CARPETING
One of our carpet dyeing processes applies the dye to white carpeting. This exclusive
Perma-Dye™ technology combines advanced carpet dyeing equipment with new dye chemical
technology. The process improves colorfastness and provides resistance to damage
caused by high temperature washings and chlorine bleach. A STAIN STOPPER™ treatment
is adding during the dyeing process that provides a protective coating which guards
against the most common mat stains. In effect, we manufacture white carpeting and
dye the carpet any number of different colors. This process creates the following
product lines from Mountville Mills, Inc.

- ClassicMats - feature traditional color styling
- ClassicCarpets - combines dark background colors with bright accennt colors
Obviously, the soil conditions of the prospect’s facility will help you determine
the correct color for the application. Light color mats will perform better in light
soil conditions, while darker colored mats will be appropriate for moderate to heavy
soil environments.
Another yarn type used to create the variety of carpeted mats is known as Solution
Dyed Nylon Yarns (SDN). With this yarn type, the dye is added to the yarn during
the yarn extrusion process. SDN yarns provide the same dust control benefits, and
also provide superior colorfastness, especially when the carpets are exposed to
direct sunlight. SDN yarns are used to create the following product lines (Exhibit
5):

As with all of our products, suggest the carpet color that will best meet the soil
conditions of the account.
Please check with your management team on the colors available to you.
NON-WOVEN POLYESTER SUBSTRATE
With high speed tufting equipment, we create the carpeting. The nylon yarn mentioned
previously is woven (tufted) into a non-woven polyester substrate. This substrate
serves as the backbone of the mat. (Exhibit 6)

We use the non-woven polyester substrate instead of lower quality substrates for
the following reasons:
- The non-woven substrate creates a stronger bond with the Nitrile rubber
- Our substrate reduces carpet fraying on the edges of the mat and allows for a mat
with cleaner lines
- The non-woven polyester substrate has a higher degree of heat resistance This substrate
will eliminate the linting of carpet fibers and the rippling of mats that is caused
by lesser quality substrates.
100% NITRILE RUBBER BACKING
All Mountville Mills' products are made with a 52-mil sheet of 100% nitrile rubber.
The four borders of the mat are reinforced with an additional 40 mills. This reinforcement
of the rubber borders will eliminate unsightly rubber tears.
The 100% nitrile rubber allows for ease in laundering and will keep the mat lying
flat for years. The rubber is bonded to the carpet with our belt press system. This
system assures that all mats are made to the same exacting standards of time, pressure
and temperature that are required to produce consistent quality. The rubber backing
is available in three separate patterns:
- Smooth rubber backing - for hard floor surfaces (Exhibit 8)
- Universal rubber backing - for carperted surfaces (Exhibit 9)
- Suction rubber backing (Exhibit 10)
All mats are available with a 90-mil option. This option should be considered when
the mat application is calling for excessive foot traffic, and whenever shopping
carts, wheelchairs, etc. will go across the floor mat.
